Speaker Profile:

Tim specialises in defamation, breach of confidence, privacy and data protection. He also advises clients in relation to the Freedom of Information Act. He regularly represents newspapers, magazines and other publishers, broadcasters, authors, sports bodies, charities, professionals (such as solicitors, surveyors, medical professionals and teachers), schools, universities and police forces. Tim chairs the Law Society’s Defamation and Privacy working groups.

His areas of expertise are ideally suited to his role in leading the firm’s cyber liability team. Tim regularly advises clients on data protection compliance and on claims and regulatory issues following data security breaches.

Mark Hawksworth of Cunningham Lindsey will follow Tim's talk with examples of incidents, an overview of the actual cases being seen (and any trends) and how they are responded to.

Mark heads up Cunningham Lindsey's Global Technology Practice and has been an adjuster for 25 years. He regularly presents on Cyber issues to the Insurance market and has experience of technology / cyber claims spanning over 20 years.

Learning Objectives:

• An update on data protection law.
• An update on the law of confidence/privacy.
• An understanding of how claims arise in these areas of law.
• An examination of damages awards in these areas.
• An understanding of how traditional policies respond to these types of claim.
• An understanding of how cyber policies respond.

Lectures are provided free of charge to CII/PFS members.
