I am delighted to have been elected as President of the Insurance Institute of the Isle of Man for 2021/22 and look forward to working with many of you over the next twelve months.
The last year was challenging in many ways. I have been delighted with the way in which your local Council has responded to those challenges including working behind the scenes to smooth qualification issues for local students. Work in this area is continuing with members of the Education Committee participating in a central exam working group.
The hybrid approach to CPD sessions we have been able to adopt has worked well. We are likely to continue with this format in the future to expand the choice of speakers available to us.
Periods of lockdown conspired against planned social and networking events last year. We hope to be able to rectify this by organising several events during the next twelve months.
The insurance sector on the Island appears to have been relatively resistant, operationally and financially, during the past year and is well placed to contribute to the post-COVID economic recovery. CII qualifications and on-going CPD has an important role to play in building the bank of knowledgeable insurance and financial services professionals who will ensure the Island remains a centre of excellence for our sectors.
As a Council, we will be looking to expand member networking and mentoring opportunities. Your local Institute exists to support you: our members. We would love to hear from you as to how we can best provide that support. Our contact details can be found on the website.
My nominated charity for the year is the Manx Heat Foundation who will share any charitable funds raised with the Insurance Charities.
I look forward to a successful year for our Institute and our members.
