A presentation on Marine Insurance to include a general overview, threats to Cargo and Freight and the implications of new SOLAS regulation (coming into effect July 2016). The presentation will include considerations for both underwriters and brokers and will also include commentary from a Risk Management perspective.

Speaker Biographies

David Varley BA Hons Cert CII Studied at York St John’s University & York College Pennsylvania between 1998 and 2001. Began insurance career at Norwich Union in 2002 and had various underwriting roles including Marine Account Manager. Joined ACE European Group in 2007 as Development Underwriter to bring a Freight Liability product to support the Marine Cargo book. A wealth of Marine experience which includes Marine Cargo, Freight Liability, Project Cargo, Fine Art & Specie, Multinational programs, Schemes and bespoke products.

Phil Hastings Worked within the insurance industry for over 30 years, 25 of which have been within the Marine sector. 15 years Marine underwriting, holding various positions including the management of and P & L responsibility for a large underwriting unit of a major global insurer. Phil has also worked as an Underwriting and Development Manager for a key account team in London, providing complex risk transfer solutions for multi-national transportation companies. 10 years ago Phil moved into Risk Management, exclusively within the cargo and transportation sectors, working with SME, Mid-Market and Global Multinational customers. Phil is a certificant of the Institute of Risk Management (CIRM), has obtained the Cert CII status (Cert CII) and successfully completed the TAPA Freight Security Requirements (FSR) training.
