This is a free to attend, face to face event, for all CII and PFS members and non-members.

Time: Registration and Lunch 1.00pm – 1.45pm, Presentations at 1.45pm – 4.45pm.

There is also an opportunity for informal networking once the formal seminars have finished between 4.45pm and 5.30pm.

We invite you to attend a free half day CPD seminar which addresses three different aspects of risk and how we address them.

  • Global Risks and their Relevance to the Insurance Market
  • Conduct Risk – how everyday decisions, behaviours and incentives shape Customer Outcomes
  • Risk Literacy – understanding risk when faced with high pressure decision making situations

The seminars will be delivered by 3 highly qualified experts from the world of commerce, risk, regulation, compliance and the military.

Who Should Attend

  • Anyone concerned with key risk-taking decisions and considerations within their day-to-day work.
  • People who operate in a firm’s compliance department or function
  • Anyone who is authorised within the FCA’s SMCR regime
  • People who work in areas concerned with People and Culture, HR, Talent Management and Employee Wellbeing / Success

Learning Objectives - by the end of this event delegates will have gained an insight into:

  • The different aspects of “Risk” and why this is not simply contained to underwriting.
  • The position and outlook for the insurance market in relation to Global Risks and how these will impact at a localised level
  • Various aspects of Conduct Risk and insight into the FCA’s recently introduced Non-Financial Misconduct rules
  • How to define “Risk Literacy” and the relationship between risk consideration and decision making under severe pressure.

Speaker Biographies:

Branko Bjelobaba

Branko started his insurance career in 1987 and has worked across the sector including stints at PwC and GISC. He has led his own consultancy practice since 2004 working closely with BIBA and the CII and has provided hundreds of well-received (even entertaining!) talks. Branko is a recipient of the Thomson Reuters Compliance Personality of the Year Award, the London Market People Award for Legal and Compliance and was Highly Commended in the CII Public Trust Awards in 2021. He has also judged various insurance awards and is a constant feature of industry commentary and analysis.

Branko is in great demand across the whole Insurance Institute network and has been a regular visitor to Leeds, delivering highly relevant and entertaining CPD events which are always well received and which produce very positive feedback from those who have attended his sessions.

Adrian Golifer

Adrian Golifer is a senior insurance compliance professional with extensive experience advising UK insurance brokers, MGAs and appointed representative networks on FCA regulation.

Adrian is an active supporter of the Chartered Insurance Institute and local Insurance Institute communities. He regularly engages with Institute-led learning and professional development activity, contributes to regulatory discussion across the insurance sector, and supports the ongoing development of insurance professionals through practical training and knowledge-sharing.

His work aligns closely with the CII’s professional standards and CPD objectives, with a strong focus on regulatory competence, ethical behaviour, and improving customer outcomes within FCA-regulated firms.

Gareth Timmins

Gareth is a former Royal Marines Commando and PHD student. He is also the best-selling author of “Becoming the 0.1%: 34 Lessons from the Diary of a Royal Marines Commando Recruit”.

Gareth has also worked extensively in the field of private security, including providing close protection services and risk management to leading organisations as well as some of the world’s wealthiest and well-known individuals.

Gareth has previously supported the University of Surry’s Business School sharing insights that have added real value to their MSc Entrepreneurial Thinking programme. He is also undertaking PhD research at the University of Huddersfield exploring rapid decision making under pressure.

He is also the founder of Nought Point One – a mindset, fitness and lifestyle brand inspired by the demanding standards of the Royal Marines.

Gareth’s stated aim is to translate his considerable experience and knowledge into the business sector, creating a blueprint for senior and emerging leaders to perform more effectively under stress. He provides an innovative framework that reshapes our contemporary understandings of resilience and responses to stress, enabling greater success in the face of overwhelming pressure.
