101st Annual Dinner of the Insurance Institute of Leicester

President of the Institute David Hutchinson welcomed guests to the evening, and then introduced Helen Watkinson who spoke on behalf of his Presidential Charity for the Year Canine Partners, giving a brief overview on their work and aims. Grace was then said by Paul Lomas, Past President of the Institute.

A sumptuous dinner of Prawn & Crayfish Cocktail, Honey Roast Duck Breast, Chocolate Orange Profiteroles, Cheese Platters and Coffee & Chocolates followed, before the Loyal Toast was proposed by The President, immediately before the short interval.

When we resumed, a prize draw was held from the charity collection envelopes collected during the evening, and then the President was presented with The Insurance Charities Shield by Annali-Joy Thornicroft, CEO & Company Secretary of The Insurance Charities. The Insurance Institute of Leicester were joint winners of this shield for 2015 together with the Insurance Institute of Southampton.

Following the toast to the Chartered Insurance Institute given by Andy Miller, immediate Past President of the Institute, Grant Scott, CII Vice President for Local Institutes gave a speech on behalf of the CII, and then proposed the toast to The Insurance Institute of Leicester.

Our President responded with a speech in which he mentioned his theme for the year “Value the Experience”, recognised those members of our institute who were the highest performers in the completion of their CII studies, and thanked members of the institute council for their assistance with the organisation of the dinner, and for their support during the year.

A special mention was made for the sponsors of the dinner: Aviva, Axa PPP Healthcare, BHIB Insurance Brokers, Aspects Insurance Recruitment Specialists, Cunningham Lindsey, Fusion Insurance, Prism Network, Qdos Underwriting and Weightmans Solicitors, without whom an event such as this would not be possible. The toast to “Our Guests” was then proposed by the President.

The evening was rounded-off with a highly entertaining after dinner speech by Paul Boardman, comedian and TV presenter, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those attending.
