Choosing a Charity - Oh I Do Love to be Beside the Seaside!

Many of the children are disadvantaged and the purpose built holiday centre on the sandhills of Mablethorpe provides accommodation for up to 64 children. First opened in 1936, the holiday home has been modernised and now includes an adventure playground with a Pirate Ship and has a path which has direct access to the beach.

As the charity is self- funding, the staff and volunteers continually work hard to raise the necessary funds for the upkeep of the building and the costs of the holidays over a 6 week period in the summertime. The transport alone from Leicester to Mablethorpe is a huge expense, so Laura is launching a fund raising campaign in the Leicester Insurance offices and at Institute events, entitled “Small change”.

By providing each office with an official collecting tin, she hopes that local businesses and insurance personnel will be generous enough to make weekly donations to the charity just by sparing some coins at the end of the week. For many of the children aged between 6 and 11 who benefit from this charity, this is often their first trip to the seaside and some have been shocked to discover that seawater is salty!

The charity is always in need of additional support, particularly in fund raising, so if anyone is keen to help, please contact Laura laura.bee@mills-reeve.com or Gill Allbright gill@abr-insurance.co.uk
