Handover of Historical Books

The books have been passed them to the central CII library for safe keeping and for people to enjoy across the UK when visiting Aldermanbury.

Graham Moore, a Leicester resident who found the books when clearing out his father’s house, contacted the Insurance Institute of Leicester via a friend, Tim Lee of Cornerstone Insurance, who in turn put Graham in touch with Pete. Pete visited Graham and the two spent some time discussing the history of the books, which as it transpired belonged to Grahams Grandfather who worked in insurance.

The books "Peeps into the Past", published in 1908 to mark the Bi-Centenary of the Old Amicable Society and the Centenary of the Norwich Union Life Office, and "Alliance Assurance" published in 1924 to mark the Centenary of the Alliance Assurance Company Ltd, have both been kept in immaculate condition, and provide a fascinating insight into the insurance world at those times.

Pete said “The Insurance Institute of Leicester decided together that rather than keep the books to ourselves, the wider community would benefit from being able to see these absolutely fascinating books which have been so well kept it takes some believing. We are indebted to Graham for taking the time to contact the institute and donate them, and for the condition they are in”.
