Overview

Financial strain is recognised as being one of the key stress factors for adults, and it can be a major risk factor for poor mental health. It is not uncommon for people to neglect their mental health, specifically when they are experiencing financial stress. This can lead to significant problems in the long term and even worsen the existing financial stress. In this session, we will explore the relationship between financial stress and health - and attendees will leave with practical tools to help them combat financial stress, and stay well.

Objectives

By attending this presentation delegates should be able to:

  • Identify the impact of financial stress
  • Understand the relationship between financial stress and health
  • Feel empowered to take control of their financial stress
  • Develop some practical tools to help them combat financial stress

Speaker - Jay Unwin

With a decade of experience in health, fitness and wellbeing, plus a former career in science education, Jay is extremely well-placed to simplify ideas which are often considered complex or overwhelming. After burning out quite catastrophically on two separate occasions, Jay developed a mental and physical fitness philosophy to rebuild the strength of his body and mind, and to avoid slipping back down ever again.

This philosophy is now the cornerstone of what he teaches to leaders and their organisations around the world, including Frontier Economics, Christian Aid, the RAC and the University of Southampton. It’s all pinned on a few central tenets: accessibility, adaptability and efficiency.

Jay's mission is quite simple: to help as many people as possible improve their overall quality of life, through improved mental and physical fitness.
