Details:

When: Tuesday 3rd October

Timings: The group will leave Leicester Rail Station at 08.30 and arrive back at 18.09

What the day will look like:

London has played a defining role in the development of insurance over the last 250 years. The strapline ‘London Insures the World’ is still used today. Last year, CII Leicester organised a special day visit to London which featured guided tours of Lloyd’s of London and the Royal Courts of Justice. The visit was well received so we are organising another trip this year.

The tour of Lloyd’s includes an explanation of how it operates by a retired non-marine broker and Members’ Agent. Visitors also see the famous Lutine Bell, the Loss Book, the Adam Room, the Old Library and the Nelson Collection.

Those who have passed their Insurance Law examination will be able to reel off around 20 important legal cases, many of which were decided at the Royal Courts of Justice. Since 1882, the High Court and Court of Appeal have sat there. We will be visiting on a working day. A professional guide will conduct our tour of this historic building on its six-acre site and reference some insurance cases. There will then be time for visitors to sit in on a live case of their choice, to see at first hand typical court procedure.

The visits to Lloyds and the Royal Courts of Justice will be informative and educational. They will enhance the knowledge and understanding of those attending about the workings of the London insurance market and the civil legal system in which so many insurance disputes have been resolved.
