(GI) FCA Consumer Duty and GI update - including product value assessments

  • Wed 26 Oct 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Online
    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

The FCA want to see a higher level of consumer protection in retail financial markets, where firms compete vigorously in the interests of consumers and they wish to drive a healthy and successful financial services system in which firms can thrive and consumers can make informed choices about financial products and services. They consider that firms are not consistently and sufficiently prioritising good consumer outcomes and this causes consumer harm and erodes consumer trust. With final rules published on 27 July 2022 this talk will update you as to what now will be needed. This General Insurance focused session will also include an update on Product Value Assessments that have to be completed by 30 September (note the FCA have criticised insurers for their lack of progress with this) and have given brokers an extension of 90 days so as to prevent customer harm. Both brokers and insurers have an important role to play and this session will ensure you understand what it is you have to do. We will also cover the current position on multi-occupancy insurances following intervention by the government (very much part of the product governance and value assessments work).

  • Online
    • Charity - Show Racism The Red Card

Due to popular demand we have organised an additional session. Spaces are limited, so to avoid missing out please book ASAP! Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. In 1990s Newcastle, Shaka was at a petrol station near St James Park when he was confronted with a group of young people shouting racist abuse at him. After one of the group realised that they had been shouting at Shaka Hislop, the Newcastle United football player, they came over to ask for an autograph. This interactive workshop, hosted by charity Show Racism The Red Card, features a range of thought provoking topics and discussion points that will enable individuals to start a journey of self-reflection based on their current values and beliefs. Delegates will also be encouraged to consider how their cultural and social experiences may have helped develop any unconscious bias within their own worldview. This 60 minute session will dive deep into three key areas: - Barriers to Equality and The Role of Unconscious Bias - The Language of Equality: Reflecting on the Power of Language - Anti- Racism and The Black Lives Matter Movement There will also be a Q&A at the end of the workshop. Spaces on this workshop are limited, so to avoid missing out please book ASAP!
