Hidden in plain sight - Spotting the signs of modern slavery
Between 1793 and 1807 Liverpool accounted for 84.7% of all slave voyages. ‘Slavery’ was abolished in 1807 but did you know that around 1 out of every 500 people in the UK are being exploited through modern slavery in 2024?
This could mean that there are people we all come into contact with as we go about our daily business that are affected, with no one suspecting because modern slavery is hiding in plain sight throughout our communities. It is often a hidden crime, but could be affecting your brother, your next door neighbour, your best friend or the person who does your nails.
Causeway is a national charity with a strong Liverpool base who lead the way in driving lasting, positive change in our society. They are passionate about reducing modern slavery, crime and exploitation and empowering the people they support to live independently in their communities.
