Webinar: How to avoid and deal with claims - a litigator's perspective for the financial planning world

Zoom - Webinar
Thursday, 10 September 2020
12:00 pm – 12:45 pm (UK time)
    • Neil Davies and Joe French, Mills & Reeve LLP

Unfortunately – claims happen. Some are well founded, others are plain bad. During these times, it is essential that financial professionals protect themselves with an awareness of how to avoid complaints and - if they happen – how to maximise the prospects of a successful defence.

Mills & Reeve are specialists in defending claims against financial professionals. Neil Davies (Partner) and Joe French (Principal Associate) host a virtual training session, which examines:

  • The potential procedural and technical arguments that financial professionals may have to ‘bat away’ a complaint, before the merits of that complaint are even considered by FOS.
  • A topical look at current trends in complaints and litigation against financial professionals and how financial professionals can minimise risk.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this 45 minute training session, delegates will be able to understand:

  • The extent of FOS’ powers to consider complaints;
  • How arguments on limitation and jurisdiction can be properly framed when dealing with FOS;
  • The key differences between the FOS and Court litigation process;
  • The current trends and risks facing financial professionals;
  • Steps that can be taken to minimise the risk of complaints and claims in the current world.
