Careers in Insurance and Financial Planning Webinar

Aspiring insurance and risk management professionals at Lancaster University, got an up-close insight into careers through a recent webinar session staged by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and a joint effort from Kendal and Bolton Local Institutes

The event brought students and professional practitioners together to discuss career paths, job roles, day-to-day working lives, graduate schemes and what specific skills are needed to be successful in the sector. This was followed by a Q & A session.

These careers events are a key stepping-stone in bridging the gap between theory and practice and critical in helping students and their peers understand what happens in the sector.

The industry professionals present gave a practical insight into their roles, and the variety and flexibility of the career options that follow. Their journey in the industry and how they have navigated it, is hoped to inspire students at Lancaster University to make the transition from study to a great career.

The professionals involved in the event included; Philip Roath from Axa Insurance, Paul Greenwood from BVS, Lizzie Scholes from Allianz, Roger Jackson from the Financial Management Bureau Ltd, and Bev Robertson from the APCC. The event was hosted by Vivine Cameron, Education Partnerships Manager at the CII.

As well as helping the professionals of tomorrow get a flavour of life working in insurance and risk management, these sessions organised by the CII recognise that general insurance businesses are always on the look-out for the brightest young talent. These events provide an opportunity for students to broaden their career choices and network with today’s professionals.
