Insurance Institute of Bournemouth Continues to Work Alongside Bournemouth University

The Insurance Institute of Bournemouth continues to work alongside Bournemouth University with its annual sponsorship of an insurance related topic for the University’s first year BA Business Studies students. This year the topic chosen was cyber insurance and students were asked to assume that they worked in the product development department of an existing insurance company. The company had decided that it needed to develop a cyber insurance product for the UK market which could be targeted at SME’s.

There were sixteen separate groups with around eighteen students in each group. Various roles were allocated to the students covering customer and market research, pricing, logistics, product development, branding and public relations and each team was led by its Marketing Director. The project ran over a period of 14 weeks and midway through the students had a seminar session which included involvement from a council member of The Insurance Institute of Bournemouth.

At the end of the project each group made a presentation to a panel consisting of two tutors and two council members from The Insurance Institute of Bournemouth. The overall standard of the presentations was good but the clear winners were Group M with their Inshield product. They produced an innovative product and gave a highly professional presentation. Congratulations to Group M.

The purpose behind The Insurance Institute of Bournemouth’s sponsorship of this project is to increase the student’s awareness of insurance whilst at the same time allowing them to understand the importance of working as part of a team.Once again we believe that this has been achieved and we would like to thank all of the students for the work that they put in throughout the project and hope that a few of them may decide in due course to follow a career in insurance.
