The Insurance Institute of Bristol needs you...

The project will be run over two days and we need 10 – 15 volunteers each day. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to get stuck in and work as part of a team. The WellChild Helping Hands team will be managing the project and providing all the tools and materials required. If you can’t spare any time, donations and sponsorship opportunities are available. Sponsors will be mentioned in all communications and press releases, showing that your firm cares about helping the local community.

Mackenzie's Helping Hands Garden Project

Mackenzie is 8 years old and lives in Bristol. She has vanishing white matter disease, seizures and ataxia. This is a rare autosomal recessive condition causing gradual deterioration and loss of skills. Symptoms also worsen following an infection or following a head injury from falling. The condition is life limiting. Mackenzie is a wheelchair user and has limited communication with slow and slurred speech that is difficult to understand. Ensuring Mackenzie has the best standard of life is something her mum works hard for, but she could really benefit from a helping hand.

Project Details

Mackenzie's garden is mostly inaccessible and generally unappealing. WellChild are looking to brighten the space up by painting some of the walls, make it more accessible by adding a wheelchair friendly surface, and make it secure by installing a fence down the left hand side of the garden. Finally, we would like to add some sensory elements to make the space engaging and enjoyable for her to spend time with her family.
