Uber and the Ride Ahead for the Insurance Industry

Online
Thursday, 22 July 2021
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm (UK time)
    • Jeff Heasman, Insurance Upskill

On 19 February 2021, the Supreme Court delivered its judgment in the Uber test case. The decision will have major ramifications for the so-called “gig economy”, and in turn, future underwriting considerations.

The Supreme Court judgment provides guidance on when the law now considers someone to be a “worker” and when someone is deemed to be “working”. Furthermore, when combined with an analysis of the Supreme Court judgments in April 2020 relating to an employer´s vicarious liability for their employees, the ramifications are potentially massive.

The potential reach of the principles involved in the case are vast and will almost certainly impact the way many of us work now and in the future. This webinar will analyse the Uber test case and its implications for future underwriting considerations.

Learning objectives

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • understand the main principles decided by the Supreme Court in the Uber test case.
  • recognise the implications that the judgment will have on the “gig economy” and the way we work.
  • implement a strategy around how the judgment of the Supreme Court will impact underwriting considerations going forward.
