President's Message

Dear Member,

I’m both delighted and extremely honoured to represent you as President for your local Institute - Chelmsford and South Essex. My sincerest thanks to my predecessor Thomas Williams for his leadership in he past year. I’ll be looking to build on his exemplary work during my year in office.

My theme for 2018/19 is “looking forward” in preparation for any challenges we may face in the upcoming year. Specifically focusing on the following:

  1. CPD Programme

I am exceptionally proud of the hard work our council has put in to curating an excellent CPD programme.  A majority of the programme is free to you and is in my opinion the best benefit that we offer our members. To ensure that you continue to get the most out of this programme I have decided for us to provide a broader variety of sessions - option to attend breakfast meetings; new topics; webinars; etc. Some of these ideas have never been tried before by your local Institute and with your support we should be in a stronger position at the end of the year to meet your training and learning needs.

  1. Annual conference

In 2017 I had the honour of hosting our first ever conference. The event was an overwhelming success and I was very humbled by your positive feedback. I’ve taken note and based on your responses I want to ensure that we open our doors to you with another successful conference in 2018.

  1. Engagement

GDPR will fundamentally change the way the CII interacts with you, our members. I plan to engage closer than ever with both you and business leaders to ensure that our members are encouraged to opt-in to our communications so that you do not miss out on opportunities to attend our above mentioned CPD events.

  1. Succession

A few years ago, Terri Driscoll-Cooper introduced our Young Professionals Group (YPG) to council. Many senior council members are former alumni of the YPG, myself included. YPG has been key to the successful continuation of council and I plan to continue to build on this to ensure that we have a regular flow of people and ideas.

That said, your councils door is open to anyone who is keen to get involved. Whether you are young or a veteran of our industry, everyone has something to contribute.

Being the 6th largest local Institute, there is so much more going on in addition to the above, such as the excellent work my talented colleagues are doing with the Women’s Forum, Diversity & Inclusion, educational bodies and charities.  These are all important to council and if you would like to find out more about these or anything else I have mentioned above then I welcome you to get in touch and attend one of our council meetings.

Thank you for your time and for your continued support to your Local Institute.

Ever onward,

Stuart Cullen ACII
