President's Message

Welcome to The Cumbria Institute of Insurance and Financial Planning

As the new President of the Insurance Institute of Kendal, I'm delighted to welcome you — whether you're a long-standing member, new to the profession, or simply curious about a career in insurance and financial planning.

Our institute is part of the Chartered Insurance Institute family, and I'm proud of the role we play locally in supporting professionals, building connections, and championing high standards. But I also believe we have a real opportunity to look forward — and that's what I'd like to focus on during my time as President.

Inspiring the next generation

One of my key priorities is to attract more young people and diverse talent into our profession. Insurance touches every part of life, yet too often it's overlooked as a career choice. I want us to change that — by creating clearer routes into the industry, supporting career development from the very start, and showing the next generation just how rewarding and varied this profession can be.

Two-way learning

I'm a firm believer that knowledge flows both ways. Our experienced professionals bring deep expertise, judgement, and insight built over years of practice. At the same time, younger talent brings fresh thinking, digital confidence, and new perspectives that can challenge us all to do things differently. When we create space for that exchange, everyone benefits. I want our institute to be a place where learning is genuinely mutual — where no one is too senior to listen and no one is too junior to contribute.

Creating opportunities to connect

None of this happens without bringing people together. I'm committed to creating more opportunities for members to connect — through events, networking, collaborative projects, and leadership development. Whether you're looking to share your experience, build new skills, or simply meet others who share your passion for this profession, I want the Insurance Institute of Kendal to be the place you turn to.
