🤯 Some of the Strangest Insurance Covers in the UK

🤯 Some of the Strangest Insurance Covers in the UK
18 June 2026
Alien abduction, ā€œcold feetā€ weddings, and million-pound golf prizes… the UK insurance market has seen it all. But behind every unusual policy is a simple truth—if it matters, it can be protected.

When people think about insurance, they usually picture the basics—home, motor, liability…

But one of the things that makes our profession so interesting is this:

šŸ‘‰ If it can be measured, it can usually be insured.

And that’s where things get really interesting…

Here are some of the more unusual (and occasionally brilliant) insurance covers that exist in the UK market šŸ‘‡

šŸ‘½ Alien Abduction Insurance

Yes… this actually exists.

Policies have been issued (mostly as novelty cover) that would theoretically pay out if you were abducted by extraterrestrials.

The catch?
You’d need to prove it… which might be slightly tricky.

šŸŒļø Hole-in-One Insurance

A firm favourite at charity golf days.

This covers the cost of a major prize—often a car or large cash payout—if someone scores a hole-in-one.

šŸ‘‰ Rare event + high value prize = perfect insurance solution.

šŸ’ ā€œCold Feetā€ Wedding Insurance

Not something you’d ever plan to need…

But this type of policy can cover cancellation costs if one party gets a last-minute change of heart.

Awkward? Yes.
Practical? Also yes.

šŸŽ¤ Non-Appearance Cover

Often used for events involving speakers, performers, or high-profile individuals.

Covers financial loss if someone doesn’t show up due to illness, travel disruption—or other unexpected issues.

šŸ‘‰ Behind the scenes, this is critical protection for event organisers.

🧟 Zombie Apocalypse Cover (Sort of…)

While not exactly standard, some insurers have offered ā€œzombieā€ policies as part of marketing campaigns.

In reality, these sit within contingency or catastrophe-style cover.

Still… not one you’d see on a standard fact find! šŸ˜„

🧠 Body Part Insurance

This one sounds strange—but is actually very logical.

  • A singer insuring their voice
  • A chef insuring their sense of taste
  • A footballer insuring their legs

šŸ‘‰ At its core, this is specialist income protection—just highly tailored to the individual.

šŸŗ Event ā€œMishapā€ Cover

There have even been policies (again, niche) linked to events being impacted by things like excessive drinking or key attendees failing to show.

Let’s just say… underwriters have seen it all.

šŸ’” So… What’s the Takeaway?

Whilst these examples might raise a smile, they highlight something really important about our industry:

āœ… Insurance isn’t just about standard policies
āœ… It’s about understanding what matters most to clients
āœ… And finding ways to protect it—no matter how unusual

Because at the end of the day:

šŸ‘‰ Every ā€œstrangeā€ policy started with a very real risk and a client who needed a solution.
