Explain Insurance to an Alien

“Earlier this week, an alien crash-landed on Earth after what they are calling “a minor navigation error”. Their spaceship? Severely damaged. Their mood? Confused. Their biggest question? How do they protect their asset against future damages?

Apparently, where they come from, everything just… works. No accidents or unexpected events. No need for protection plans. We tried explaining, but it got us thinking…

How would you explain insurance to an alien?

Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to explain insurance to our alien friend in the simplest, most creative, or most bizarre way possible.
