Insurance Institute of Liverpool (IIL) Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Insurance Institute of Liverpool held their AGM at the Hard Day’s Night Hotel on the 17th April 2018, with 26 members attending.

This was Tracey Fisher’s last meeting as president. The report of the secretary and the Financial Accounts were read out and agreed.

Mr Tom Harrison, Secretary gave attendees an overview of the highlights of council members reports, with Tom’s good natured humour giving attendees some laughs along the way.

Highlights from the year include:
• A total of £1,203.50 being raised for the Insurance Charities

• A highlight for the coming year is the IIL Games 2018 which the social committee have been organising. This includes four competitions for local firms in Liverpool to be a part of. It starts with a Pool Competition at Rileys on 2nd May, then a School Style Sports Day on 5th July, followed by Breakout on 26th September and to finish a Christmas Jumper Quiz on 28th November.

• Thanks were given to Tim Hayes who managed the Annual Golf Day

• Several successful revision courses have been ran over the past 12 months.

• The annual awards luncheon at the Hard Days Night was a success. Awards were presented to members who achieved outstanding exam success and there was a fascinating talk from Neil Gyllenship of Liverpool John Lennon Airport about his sail across the Atlantic.

• The venue for written exams has changed this year, after experiencing some problems with the Masonic Hall. Exams are now held at the Richmond Hotel.

• There is a plan to launch some local study support groups using Linked-In.

• The 2018 Insurance Institute of Liverpool Dinner was held at the Crowne Plaza. There were over 250 guests in attendance. This year’s speakers were Mr David Howell, RSA Insurance, Mr Grant Scott, CII Vice President, Mr Brian McNamara, Presidents guest and the Liverpool President, Mrs Tracey Fisher MBE. During the President’s speech Tracey Fisher presented John Clarke with the Young Achiever of the year award and Julie Calvert with the IIL Exceptional service award. A raffle was held for North West Air Ambulance with the addition of Gift Aid over £2400 was raised.

• There has been a comprehensive schedule of CPD events during the 2017/2018 year, with 8 lectures taking place.

• A Careers Event was held in July to which local schools were invited. This year’s event was attended by approximately 70 young people from a number of local schools and colleges.

• Since the annual general meeting last year, the Communications Committee have produced two further In Touch booklets – Summer 2017, Winter 2017 and a Summer 2018 is due out shortly.

• The IIL hosted a Speed Networking event on Tuesday 23rd May 2017 which was well attended.

• On Saturday 15th July there was a Family Day at Royden Park which raised a total of £206.31 for North West Air Ambulance.

• There was also an arranged visit to Cammell Laird on Wednesday 4th October.

• There have been 2 more In Touch booklets since the last AGM with one more on its way. The Communications Committee thanked those that had produced articles or had been involved with articles for the web, In touch and social media.

New committee members were also agreed

The President advised the meeting that Council had unanimously agreed to support the nomination of Carly Dunningham as President for 2018/2019. Emma Lynch was also unanimously agreed in as the deputy president.
