Insurance Institute of Liverpool Annual Dinner

Dr Reverend Crispin Pailing, Rector of Liverpool, set the scene with his tongue in cheek but very topical grace at the Insurance Institute of Liverpool Annual Dinner.
“Almighty God, who is the underwriter of all and in whom there is no risk. We give you thanks for the Insurance Institute of Liverpool and ask the assurance of your blessing on our food and fellowship this evening: keep us mindful of those in need tonight. We make this claim through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. “

After a delightful dinner, Mrs Carly Dunningham, President of the Institute welcomed guests and toasted Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Lancaster .
Julie Calvert, Director of Pavis Financial Management introduced Carly thanking her for her warmth, professionalism and passion both in her job and as Associate Director at Pavis, but in her role as President of the institute. Julie said that Carly was an inspiration and since joining Pavis in 2015 had approached every task no matter how daunting with a smile.
The response was given by J M Clark, President of the Chartered Insurance Institute who discussed the importance of having high standards and being united in professionalism, when embracing the diversities we encounter every day and in all that we do. John’s first memories of Liverpool was a ferry across the Mersey and an annual dinner at the Adelphi in 2002!
He went on to quote Gareth Malone – in that united we are all stronger explaining that the CII are a community of professionals, always leaning ethically with an emphasis on professionalism. He discussed the new claims group and the importance of always meeting others legitimate expectations. He finished his speech by quoting Theodore Roosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” and led the toast to the institute of Liverpool.
Carly Dunningham’s speech followed with Carly outlining the work the Liverpool Institute had completed during the year especially the careers day and CPD revision courses. Carly introduced the “Study Buddy” group, which should start in 2019. She particularly thanked Ms Bethany Lavin for her work on the Institute Games and Ms Tracy O’Connell for all of her support during Carly’s year as President.
Carly introduced the worthy winners of the Insurance Institute of Liverpool’s awards. Joe Clark from AJ Gallagher, Young Achiever of the Year and the Exceptional Service Award to Tom Harrison of Letton Percival. These very well deserved awards were popular with the audience, and the Council as both Tom and Joe are members of the Liverpool Institute Council.
Carly, thanked the institute sponsors, the main sponsor Pavis and introduced her guest, Ms P Haslam, TV Presenter and Radio 4 Broadcaster.
Penny’s theme was the importance of having confidence in all that we do and for striving for success. She introduced the audience to times when she could have gone to pieces and had a meltdown, but with positive thinking was able to achieve so much more. She said that we all should avoid “rampant negative self-talking” and should still that little but negatively challenging voice. We should be brave, have confidence in our abilities and most importantly say “yes”.
Carly and the Insurance Institute of Liverpool’s Council would like to thank everyone who attended and for those who donated towards Carlys chosen charity KIND

An amazing £2,270 was raised. KIND is a local charity that supports deprived children and their families in our community. Stephen Yip, CEO of KIND thanked everyone saying “this wonderful donation is a great start to our fundraising year and the support, kindness and generosity of those who attended the Dinner is very much appreciated and needed if our work is to continue with those less fortunate children and families from within our community”.

The evening finished with networking and for the more energetic a disco as well! The council looks forward to seeing everyone again next year and in the meantime wishes everyone a happy, healthy, successful and prosperous New Year
