Philanthropy can offer financial planners a powerful way to understand what really matters to their clients, while supporting wider financial, family and legacy planning. This session will explore the Community Foundation model, the changing landscape of philanthropy and how strategic charitable giving can deepen client relationships and create meaningful community impact. We’ll also consider key UK tax implications, including Gift Aid and higher and additional-rate tax relief, alongside practical opportunities to introduce philanthropy following events such as a business sale. Finally, we’ll look at the power of collaboration and how advisers can help clients turn wealth, values and purpose into lasting impact.

In this session, you'll learn:.

  • Understand how the Community Foundation model works – and the value it adds to clients and communities
  • Explain how client relationships can be taken to a new level – building trust, deepening relationships, tapping into what a client is emotionally connected to
  • Identify key UK tax considerations associated with charitable giving, including Gift Aid, higher and additional-rate tax relief, the requirement for donors to have paid sufficient tax, and relevant limitations when considering investment bond gains.
  • Recognise opportunities to incorporate philanthropy into client conversations, particularly following significant liquidity events such as a business sale, where charitable giving may support both financial objectives and a client's desire for continued purpose, involvement and positive community impact.
  • Appreciate the power of philanthropic collaboration – engaging in focussed charitable investment with likeminded partners to deliver real impact
