CPD Diversity Webinar "Unconscious Bias" with Dr Pete Jones

Overview:

Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness.

This 1-hour webinar will raise awareness around Unconscious Bias in the workplace and wider business environment. Drawing strongly on the neuroscience evidence, and the research around ‘what works’, it aims to equip delegates with an insight into Unconscious Bias.

Learning Objectives:

• The impact of Unconscious Bias on our people processes
• The actions we can take to mitigate those effects
• Ideas to manage bias in the workplace

It is relevant to any employee in the Insurance or Financial area.

Speaker bio

Dr Pete Jones is a Chartered Psychologist and a Chartered Scientist who specialises in research, consultancy and training around our unconscious (implicit) biases, and how we can better manage them at work.

Pete’s clients include major UK and international banks and Insurance companies, as well as many large global law firms. He has worked with several UK regulators including The Financial Ombudman Service; OFCOM, The IPCC, Planning Inspectorate, Bar Council, The ASA, and has presented at the international ombudsman conference (INFO 2018). His commercial clients include engineering companies, tech companies and retail. He is a regular trainer on the staff programmes at the Universities of Edinburgh, Sheffield, Manchester and Imperial College, London as well as international institutes. He has recently trained the trainers delivering unconscious bias across 16 Irish universities. Pete has also delivered training to the UK Home Office senior leaders and immigration services, as well as many UK police forces.

Pete is the author on the chapter on recruiting and unconscious bias in in the 2018 book; ‘The Psychology of Ethnicity in Organisations’. He is the developer of a range of tools designed to measure and mitigate bias including and a process de-biasing platform and the commercial bias test Implicitly® designed to measure our hidden biases around Age, Disability, Ethnicity, Gender, Sexual Orientation and a host of other characteristics.
