Session 1 - "Time to pay your pension some attention"

Robert Cochran (Engagement and Innovation Specialist, Scottish Widows) is an industry expert at the leading edge of comms and engagement. His unique focus is on improving member engagement – scheme member knowledge and understanding by utilising the latest techniques. Be that embracing Social Media through the likes of the Scottish Widows Tik Tok channel, gamification of pension knowledge and actions. He is a master of bringing data to life by crashing data into real member experiences and stories and turning it into a proper engagement story.

Robert previously lead the Scottish Widows Employer and Employee engagement teams – creating messages and material for adviser, employer and employee Pension Seminars and Engagement Events. He still gets out and joins the teams who meet thousands of employees each year and talk to them about pensions and because of this Robert is a zealot about simplifying pensions for people. Increasingly he and his team are working with LBG digital resources to simplify pensions within broader Financial Wellness for employees.

He appears regularly in print and on the radio as a Retirement Expert and hosts the  Scottish Widows Workplace Pensions Podcast a B2B podcast with a back catalogue of more than 40 shows meeting Employers, Advisers, Pension Ministers and industry experts. He often appears in the media and speaks about pensions engagement, tech and data at industry conferences , but just as importantly at member events. Over the years has had many interactions with policy makers. He represents Scottish Widows as a founding partner in Pension Engagement Season and National Pension Tracing Day building on his days of taking Pension Awareness to the public on a double decker bus all the while trying to make a real difference to people’s outcomes at retirement.

Robert also holds a Marketing and Finance degree and won Pension Marketer of the Year 2025 Award in November 2025.
