Lizzy Watt

“Having worked in banking previously, I joined the insurance sector in 2014, gaining invaluable experience in various roles including sales, claims and compliance. I currently work as Group Compliance Officer for Prestige Insurance Holdings Ltd. and thoroughly enjoy the variety and scope of work that my role affords me. As a firm proponent of the CII standards, I sought to demonstrate my commitment through the achievement of the CII Diploma qualification. The array of modules on offer encourage a better understanding and insight into the workings of the insurance industry, and provide a solid knowledge base for anyone working within it. Juggling a full-time job, a young family and studying proved testing at times, however, the end result was definitely worth it. I would highly recommend the CII Diploma qualification to all as it offers a high level of professionalism and demonstrates a commitment which is widely recognised.”

Trevor Johnston

"I started my career in financial services as a Mortgage Adviser in 2003. I enjoyed helping people from various backgrounds achieve that emotional financial goal of home ownership. Having completed the Certificate in Financial Advice in 2007 and the Diploma in Financial Advice in 2010 it was a personal ambition to pursue Chartered Financial Planner status, however work and family commitments always seemed to take priority. In 2018 I finally took the plunge and sat my first Advanced Diploma exam, with my final exam grades in early 2020. The same year I was delighted to be awarded Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and the Xafinity Financial Planning Award. Looking back, I appreciate the learning curve I’ve been on and the amount of work involved, but I take great pride in what I’ve achieved. Employers and clients recognise this commitment to our profession, and I would recommend anyone seeking a career in financial services to view each exam as one small step to their final destination."

Stan McDowell

"I commenced my career at Sun Life of Canada Belfast as a trainee Life Insurance Sales Rep. After several roles I was appointed NI Direct Sales Manager for Royal Life. I eventually set up my own Company McDowell Financial Services which then became Ltd in 2018. I decided in April 2017 to upgrade my qualifications to Fellowship level before I ran out of time on earth. It was an interesting journey which was completed in December 2019."

Marc Rice

"I have been working within the insurance industry for over 10 years. I began my career within personal lines, however I always knew I wanted to move into Commercial Insurance. In 2014 I got my chance and moved to small provincial broker where I worked in the commercial department for 5 years. I firmly believe this is where I learned my ‘trade’ which enabled me to progress and move into the position I am in today, working for a large independent broker specialising in large, sometimes complex risks.Of course none of this would have been to have been possible without obtaining my Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma with the CII. These qualifications enabled me to build on my knowledge I gained from ‘on the job training’ and helped me grow in confidence in dealing with the insurance risks I enjoy working on today."

Joy Ramsey

"I have been in the insurance industry for over 18 years now, concentrating in the commercial insurance sector and working for Thomond Underwriting in excess of 11 years."I was delighted to finally achieve my ACII and this award. Having a family at home I took my time and completed my ACII by completing one subject per year, taking the odd year out for having a children etc. My advice to anyone with limited time wanting to achieve ACII is to study small but often allowing for months in the year study free. I always viewed doing a subject per year as a means to completing my CPD hourly requirement each year with the added benefit that when completed I would have another qualification. I never considered myself to be overly academic but now believe it is just a matter of finding a study pattern that suits your lifestyle and mind set. The CII online study tools are also a great aid and would recommend utilisation of same. Go for it if I can do it anyone can!"

Lucia Turner

"Having worked within the insurance industry for nearly 20 years, I have endless experience in the field. Predominantly working within the commercial sector, spending the majority of my career as a Commercial Team Leader. I currently work as the Agricultural Team leader with AbbeyAutoline, a role I have been in for the past 9 years. I am very proud to have achieved my ACII, and grateful to have gained so much knowledge about the industry and market place on completion of the course. The workload to complete the ACII qualification can be challenging at time, however, I found it best to focus on one module at a time and worked to complete the entire course within two years. I balanced the studying and preparation alongside caring for a new born baby, so if I can do it anyone can.All the hard work and determination to complete my ACII was definitely worth it and I would encourage anyone in the industry thinking about doing it to go for it, as the support from the Institute is really excellent."
