President's Message

I am honoured to be elected President of the Insurance Institute of Sheffield for 2024/2025.

With the help of my colleagues on the Council of our Institute we will continue to provide a wide range of CPD events for our members, whether on the general or the financial services side of our Institute, as well as sharing the CPD sessions organised by other local institutes in the North East Regional Forum. Based on recent experience most events will be delivered online, but some will be arranged on a face to face basis as we believe this is still important for members to meet and share their experiences.

We are working with the Chartered Insurance Institute and employers across our region to encourage greater participation with our CPD and social events, including our Annual Dinner in November.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas about the future of our Institute and its events I would be pleased to welcome you to join our Council Meetings as a guest. I would also welcome hearing from anyone who would consider joining the Council. We need to ensure that our Institute remains relevant to ALL of our members and we can’t do this without our members.

In Person CPD Event: Networking - A Professional Approach

Networking has massive benefits to individuals and organisations on multiple levels, and yet many neglect it completely, go through the motions or treat it solely as an opportunity to get out of the office and blow off some steam. This session, presented by Nick Thomas, emphasises a professional and structured approach to networking; exploring overall networking strategy, how to optimise results from specific events, and pays particular attention to networking for sales. It gives delegates the tools and insight to raise their networking game and reap the rewards for themselves and their employers.

Golf Day 2024

Our Annual Golf Day is an event open to anyone working in, with or around the insurance and personal finance professions of South Yorkshire or is a member of the CII/PFS. As in previous years, there will be two competitions in the one event: An Open Event, available to all players and a Closed Event, only available to players with a formal recognised handicap.

CPD Webinar: Advanced Marine Cargo Insurance

If you participated in our previous Introduction and Intermediate sessions earlier in the year by now your confidence and knowledge of marine cargo insurance should mean there are no sleepless nights but every now and then there is the nightmare … We conclude this series by examining and exploring areas of marine cargo insurance that are often overlooked as they might not be relevant to our day to day role. However, it’s always useful to expand knowledge and ‘see the bigger picture’. This session will look at Letters of Credit, the claims process and international legislation as well as other issues that can arise from time to time when dealing with cargo insurance.
