It is an honour to be elected as President of the Insurance Society of Edinburgh for the 2020-21 year. The ISE dates back to 1901 and continues to be well supported and thriving, with a dedicated team of volunteers on Council, who provide many years of experience. I have been on the ISE Council since 2009 and also served as the Treasurer from 2012 up to the 2020 AGM where I was now elected as President.
I have been in Financial Services for 30 years, and was in the first ever group of just over 500 people to be awarded the title of Chartered Financial Planner, when the CII was first given approval to grant this at the end of 2005. I went on to become a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society in 2007. I currently run my own IFA business which I have owned since I set it up in January 2004.
The Insurance Society of Edinburgh’s membership is now in excess of 2,000 with around 52% coming from the Financial Services side. My aim (and that of your Council) is to continue the good work of previous years and provide the membership with quality CPD and Exam Revision events for both the FS and GI sides, as well as our much loved Annual Quiz Night and other sports and social events. We still hope to host our Annual Awards Ceremony (which was scheduled for June) later this year.
Many of the CPD events will be taking place online during the Coronavirus crisis and we are also looking to work closely with our colleagues in the PFS and other Scottish CII Local Institutes to promote events in this manner. Our aim is to provide members with events that they find useful, so please let me know if you have any suggestions for future events.
