Session Overview:
Peter Barton, MD of Barton Law a firm specialising in equity release and a member of the Standards Board of the ERC will be presenting on the current state of the lifetime mortgage market, the many opportunities in the sector as well as the current pitfalls making an advisers life difficult.
This is an opportunity to pick the brains of one of the leading Solicitors in the Country in this sector on all things later life borrowing.

- Update on the current market - what has happened over the past 18 months, the lenders and the next 12 months
- What are the main issues faced by advisers currently when dealing with clients and lenders - vulnerable clients, legal issues, family
- How do advisers interact with the lawyer, when and why
- The view from the ERC and FSA
Peter Barton - Managing Director of Barton Law
Peter specialises in advising clients on Equity Release Schemes.
He has 24 years’ hands-on practical experience and knowledge of working in the lifetime mortgage sector and has advised on hundreds of Equity Release transactions.
Prior to launching Barton Law, Peter was Head of the Equity Release department at Ashfords LLP, one of the largest teams of its kind in the country winning national awards for the quality of its work in equity release and reversion plans.
Peter is a co-founder of the Equity Release Solicitors Alliance and a prominent member of the Equity Release Council.
He’s regularly approached in a consultation role on issues with products and lenders and on product development. He is also a member of the Standards Committee responsible for developing the Equity Release Council’s consumer safeguards and has in-depth knowledge of all of the current lender legal practices and products
