Face to face, PFS breakfast session - The Evolution of With Profits

The Exeter Court Hotel
Wednesday, 15 November 2023
8:30 am – 10:00 am (UK time)
    • John Steele, Business Development Manager, Wesleyan

We are delighted to welcome John Steele of Wesleyan for this face to face training workshop.

Session Overview:

With-profits policies evolved over many years.

Originally they developed as a means of distributing unplanned surplus, arising e.g. from lower than anticipated death rates.

With-profits investments can form all or part of any investment.

The money you put into a with-profits fund is pooled with other investors' money and invested in a mixture of shares, bonds, property and money market instruments (including cash).

With-profit returns depend on how these underlying investments perform.

Venue: Kennford Suite, Exeter Court Hotel, Kennford, Exeter, EX6 7UX

Timing: Bacon roll, tea coffee & juice at 8.30am, session starts 9.00am and finishes at 10am.

Learning objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to understand:

  • How generic With-Profits funds work
  • Principles and Operating structures, including the smoothing mechanism
  • Understanding how Market Valuation Reductions work and their impact on client outcomes
  • Valuation of unitised With-Profits and how this differs from traditional / standard With-Profits
  • How With-Profits can be used to address specific client outcomes
