People’s Emergency Briefing – Local Screening

The climate and nature crisis poses a significant threat to all aspects of life in the United Kingdom, from national security to food supply. However, viable solutions do exist.
On 27 November 2025, ten of the UK’s leading experts delivered a formal briefing in Westminster to an invited audience of more than 1,200 individuals, including politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport, and the media. This briefing set out, on the public record, the implications of climate and environmental degradation for public health, food systems, national security, and the economy.
The Insurance Institute of Leeds is pleased to host a local screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing film, which is being distributed across the UK. It examines the risks posed to British life and the UK economy by the continued degradation of climate and nature. The film features footage from the November National Emergency Briefing and brings together leading UK experts in climate science, food security, health, economics, national security, and environmental studies. Please note that the film contains some strong language.
It provides a clear and measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is already affecting everyday life across Britain, and outlines the evidence regarding both the risks and the potential responses. More details can be found at Trailer 2: the People's Emergency Briefing - YouTube
There are obvious implications for insurance and for every single one of us as private individuals. These challenges are not abstract. They are increasingly influencing supply chains, insurance costs, workforce health, infrastructure reliability, energy pricing, food systems, and long-term investment stability.
We are therefore opening up this presentation to a wider audience of insurance professionals, other business and political groups and the general public.
Following the 50-minute film screening, there will be an optional 30-minute local Q&A discussion, featuring a panel of experts.
Please note that lunch will not be served on this occasion.
