Join us for our second IINI Masterclass of our new 2025-2026 season. We are delighted to have two sessions from industry-leading experts in Construction Insurance and Loss and Personal Injury Litigation.

Session 1 - Construction Sector Overview & Safety (Back to Basics)

Michael Brennan is Head of Trading UW at AXA Ireland. Mick has over 35 years commercial experience across Underwriting, Governance, Product, Portfolio Management, Distribution & Relationship management. He previously worked at Aviva & Ecclesiastical. Mick is FCII qualified, holds a BSc Occupational Safety & health Management and is a Lecturer and Updating Author for Advanced Underwriting & Advanced Risk Management for the Insurance Institute Ireland.

Jason Kelly has been the manager of the AXA Ireland’s Risk Control Department for the last five years, having spent the previous 20 years working up to a senior risk control consultant with Travelers Insurance. Having qualified as a Building Surveyor he moved from construction into the insurance world initially using his construction experience in the property claims arena as a loss adjuster. Jason is ACII qualified and has Chartered memberships of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, & Institute of Building.

During this session attendees will gain an understanding of the main forms of the construction sector and trends in Northern Ireland, specific cover requirements for contractors and what the future looks like for the industry.

Session 2 - Current Approaches to Quantum Assessment in Personal Injury Claims in Northern Ireland

Louise Trimble (Partner, DWF) has 17 years’ experience of acting for insurance clients in Northern Ireland with DWF and specialises in advising clients on counter fraud strategies in the NI jurisdiction. Louise also leads the award-winning Northern Ireland Motor and Fraud team which regularly achieves significant savings and excellent outcomes for clients in the areas of motor volume, credit hire, recoveries, pre litigation handling, large loss and fraud.

Katrina Gray is a Director in the Major Injury and Casualty team in DWF Belfast. Katrina acts on behalf of global insurance clients in defence of large loss employer and public liability claims. Katrina also has specialist experience in representing clients at Inquest and in defence of criminal prosecutions initiated by the PSNI and HSENI, such as Corporate manslaughter, arising out of serious and fatal accidents.

This talk will help attendees gain a better understanding of how the courts in Northern Ireland are assessing injuries and the factors that contribute to how cases are valued in Northern Ireland.
