Session Overview

This event will provide a general history as to why the government set this taskforce up, what the taskforce discovered and what it recommended. The event will discuss the government’s approach to the problem, the causes of fraud, what the insurance industry and others are doing to combat fraud, possible developments and what CII members can do.

A light buffet lunch and refreshments will be available from 12.15 with the seminar starting at 1p.m. for an hour.

At the end of this event, the delegate will be able to identify:

  • an awareness of the government’s approach to the insurance fraud problem
  • the causes of fraud
  • what the insurance industry and others are doing to combat fraud.

Speaker Biography

David Hertzell was Managing Partner of city law firm DAC until 2006. He was appointed a Law Commissioner in 2007 until 2014. He previously chaired the Airmic (the UK risk managers association) Captive Insurance Focus Group, is an Airmic Board member and was a member of the BSI drafting committee on risk management. He is immediate past president of the British Insurance Law Association and Chair of the CII Professional Standards Board.

He chaired the government Taskforce on insurance fraud. He is a pension fund trustee and sat as the independent member on the audit and risk committee of the Judicial Appointments Committee. As Law Commissioner David was responsible for various commercial and common law reform projects, including the reform of insurance contract law, the law relating to the supply of goods and services and the fiduciary duties of investment intermediaries.

The Nottingham Insurance Institute charges for non-attendance at all CPD events. If you do find that you are unable to attend, we ask that you give us at least 4 working days notice that you are no longer able to attend.

Please note, if you fail to let us know before this deadline, we will need to charge a £30.00 (inc. VAT) non-attendance fee to cover the cost of catering, booking arrangements and denial of your place to other members.

All cancellations must be received by email and you will receive confirmation of your cancellation. You may also nominate a replacement if you are unable to attend. By proceeding with the registration you agree to these terms and conditions.
