President's Message

I am honoured to be elected President of the Insurance Institute of Sheffield for 2024/2025.

With the help of my colleagues on the Council of our Institute we will continue to provide a wide range of CPD events for our members, whether on the general or the financial services side of our Institute, as well as sharing the CPD sessions organised by other local institutes in the North East Regional Forum. Based on recent experience most events will be delivered online, but some will be arranged on a face to face basis as we believe this is still important for members to meet and share their experiences.

We are working with the Chartered Insurance Institute and employers across our region to encourage greater participation with our CPD and social events, including our Annual Dinner in November.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas about the future of our Institute and its events I would be pleased to welcome you to join our Council Meetings as a guest. I would also welcome hearing from anyone who would consider joining the Council. We need to ensure that our Institute remains relevant to ALL of our members and we can’t do this without our members.

In Person CPD Event: Networking - A Professional Approach

Networking has massive benefits to individuals and organisations on multiple levels, and yet many neglect it completely, go through the motions or treat it solely as an opportunity to get out of the office and blow off some steam. This session, presented by Nick Thomas, emphasises a professional and structured approach to networking; exploring overall networking strategy, how to optimise results from specific events, and pays particular attention to networking for sales. It gives delegates the tools and insight to raise their networking game and reap the rewards for themselves and their employers.

An overview of Motor Trade insurance

The presentation, provided by Alan Chandler one of the most popular insurance presenters in the UK, will provide an overview of the main covers for a Motor Trader and show where brokers make mistakes when setting up covers. Alan will explore the background as to why the motor trade market has experienced such large rate increases. The presentation will also look into how a broker can help clients by getting motor traders to focus more on risk management.

2024 PFS-Member Annual Conference

Flood Resilience: An opportunity to mitigate risk

This one-hour webinar provided by Ian Gibbs of Sedgwick International UK, will examine our understanding of flood risk. Ian will look at how we assess flood resilience and examine the impact this peril is having on our clients. We'll explore how clients can mitigate flood risk and can gain an awareness of the different resilience options available.
