The Insurance Charities is the charity for the UK & Irish insurance industry, which has been providing support for current and former employees and their dependents since 1902

From a Southampton Insurance Institute perspective, this included The Insurance Charities providing charitable payments & loans of £243,288 to people in need within your local area.

Eligibility criteria

You can apply if you are a:

· Current or past insurance employee:

o with at least five years’ work in insurance within the last ten years, or

o with less than five years’ insurance work but where insurance has made up the majority of your career to date, or

o with at least five years’ work in insurance immediately prior to retirement, or

o in receipt of a pension or deferred pension from an insurance employer in respect of at least five years’ insurance service.

OR you are:

o A dependant of a current or former insurance employee.

In all cases:

o Service must be/have been within the UK or Irish insurance industry.

o There must be restricted financial means in terms of income and capital.

o An element of misfortune has arisen.

You do not need to be a CII member to apply for help.

If they aren’t able to help you directly, they may be able to offer advice and point you in the right direction of another charitable organisation. As a local insurance institute, we run several events during the year where we raise funds for The Insurance Charities, e.g. The Annual Golf Day, The Annual Dinner, CPD raffles as well as promoting office fundraising ideas throughout the Insurance Charities Awareness Week.
