The Insurance Institute of Cardiff invite you to a Webinar on The Future of Regulation

Event Details:

Thursday 20th April 2023 2023 – 12:30-13:30pm

The webinar will be run via Zoom, a global web-conferencing solution. Zoom is easy to use, a link and joining instructions will be sent to you at the time of booking.

About the session:

In 2023 we find ourselves in a world significantly different to what it was even just a mere 3 years ago.

The pandemic has caused permanent changes to the workforce through flexible and agile working, tech of the future - like AI - is quickly becoming tech of the present, and environmental and social movements are rapidly changing both internal and external expectations of corporate responsibility.

Such change happening so quickly has meant Regulators (and the industry) are sprinting to catch up.

In this 60 minute webinar we will look at up and coming regulation and considerations for the general insurance industry, spotlighting key areas of focus including consumer protection, digital transformation (including data privacy & cyber security), and Environmental, Social & Governance.

Being aware of and prepared for future regulation is arguably now more important than ever before, as 2023 will be a year of regulatory challenge (and opportunity) with insurers juggling a growing list of high priority governance, whilst navigating the impact of the Cost of Living crisis.

What will be covered:

  • The (brief) history & background of Regulation in the general insurance industry including the aims and role of the FCA
  • The continued focus on Consumer Protection and the Consumer Duty
  • Data Privacy & Cyber Security, including the latest from the ICO
  • Keeping up with technological advancement – What is the FCA doing about AI?
  • Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), its growing presence and the Regulatory catch up
  • Other areas of regulation to keep an eye on for 2023, including PRA consultation on Solvency II reform

Learning Objectives:

  • Be able to explain the background to regulation in the general insurance industry
  • Understand the aims of the FCA and their role as Regulator
  • Be able to describe the current key areas of regulatory focus for 2023
  • Be able to recognise what actions you need to take to prepare for future regulation and upcoming changes

Trainer Background:

The Course will be run by Kerris Earle of Zing 365.

I am a compliance professional with 9 years’ experience in highly regulated environments in a variety of roles. With 5 years’ experience in compliance and governance positions across insurance and fundraising. I chose compliance as my specialism as I enjoy topics that require critical thinking, ethical consideration, interpretation of regulation/legislation, and that offer challenge in an environment subject to change.

My knowledge and experience coupled with my passion and approach to compliance as a collaborative cross-organisational function, moving away from compliance as a “tick box exercise”, has helped shape and support organisations to succeed whilst still offering protection from financial and reputational damage.

Training, learning and development and offering guidance on complicated topics in simple understandable terms has always been my favourite part of my previous roles, and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge, experience, and expertise to allow others to develop and grow.
