Royal London Pensions Technical, Lifetime Allowance & Annual Allowance Changes with Craig Muir

Synopsis

As a part of the Consumer Duty, it’s essential advisers keep up to date with changes in pension legislation to ensure they continue to enable their clients to pursue their financial objectives, while avoiding foreseeable harm. This presentation considers a number of changes to pension legislation heralded in the March 2023 budget, including the proposed abolition of the lifetime allowance and increases in the annual allowances. A firm understanding of these changes, and their impact on your clients, will be absolutely vital to create a plan to achieve good client outcomes. We also outline changes to Capital Gains Tax and Dividend Tax allowances for the 2023/24 tax year and those scheduled for subsequent years.

Throughout this presentation we remain mindful of the altered focus of regulation in a post-Consumer Duty world. Under the Consumer Duty, advisers are compelled to ask themselves “is this right” rather than “is this within the regulations”. So, as we work through the budget changes, we’ll endeavour to demonstrate to advisers how their knowledge and application of these changes helps create good outcomes for their clients.
