About the Webinar

Both indoor and outdoor climbing carry inherent risks, stepping off the ground always involves the possibility of an unexpected fall. While modern safety equipment and the rising popularity of indoor climbing have made the sport feel less extreme, more associated with bouldering gyms and social spaces than harsh days at the crag, the core danger of releasing your potential energy in an unplanned fall remains.

In this presentation, Materials Engineer Jason Buchwitz will explore the construction and characteristics of indoor climbing walls, review trends in climbing related accidents, and examine existing risk reduction measures, while considering which risks are unavoidable elements of the sport.
