Where: Online via Microsoft Teams
Please join us for our lunch and learn with David Smith and Lamorna Jarvis from WTW who are pleased to provide an introduction and overview to Catastrophe & Climate Analytics.
This session aims to provide an overview of their roles and how they use catastrophe and climate modelling to analyse the risk posed to Clients.
This includes analysis of natural catastrophes such as extreme weather events (e.g. flooding and windstorms) and other natural perils such as earthquake risk.
The climate analysis focuses on the forward-looking projections of acute and chronic risks across different emissions scenarios which support Clients in their climate disclosure reporting. Both aspects assist in facilitating the optimal management, mitigation and transfer of risk.
Our speakers:
David Smith - WTW - Associate Director - Physical Risks | Climate Practice
David joined WTW in August 2022 as part of the Strategic Risk Consulting team in London. His main responsibility is to deliver a range of natural catastrophe and climate risk consulting services for WTW global corporate client base. He is specialised in running industry recognised catastrophe models to help clients understand their risk against natural perils.
David holds a BSc in Geophysics from the University of Edinburgh and a MSc in Petroleum Geosciences from Imperial College London.
Prior to WTW, David worked for 3 years within the client and consulting team of Verisk (formally AIR), one of the industries leading catastrophe modelling vendor. Responsibilities included acting as subject matter expert on Verisk’s catastrophe modelling platform Touchstone(Re); helping answer client queries, training clients on the use of the software and running complex analytical solutions to help clients best understand their risk against natural and man-made perils.
Before catastrophe modelling, David worked for BP as a geohazards specialist, working to delineate natural hazards which may pose a risk to engineering and drilling operations that were taking place across the business.
David is passionate about helping clients to not only identify, but mitigate their risk against natural hazards.
