The Insurance Act: One Year On

This talk will provide a reminder of the key changes introduced by the act and how the market is responding to those changes.

Who should attend?
Anyone in, or connected to, the insurance market who wants to understand how they will be affected by the changes that the Insurance Bill will make to the current law.

The Insurance Act came into force on 12th August 2016 and this talk considers how companies were prepared for its implementation and how has the market responded. The changes imposed under the act are likely to affect anyone involved in the insurance market. The changes are wide ranging and relate to the disclosure of material facts, the remedies available for non-disclosure, policy terms and warranties, and fraudulent claims.

Learning objectives
At the end of this event, the delegate will be able to identify:
• Brief reminder of the changes to the statutory framework
• How the market has adapted and is responding to the new remedies available to it in the event of non-disclosure
• Recent cases that have an impact on the Act with particular reference to the use of fraudulent devices
• The Enterprise Act – how it will affect claims payments and practical issues for market practitioners

Speakers biography
Michael is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and qualified as a solicitor in 2002 having worked for various insurance brokers in London and Hong Kong. He specialises in insurance coverage disputes, policy wording drafting and defending professionals.

Nichola qualified as a solicitor in 1993 and specialises in commercial insurance disputes, recovery claims and advises on policy coverage. She is a member of the FOIL National Executive Committee and sits as their representative on the Law Society Council.
