Business interruption insurance is often seen as one of the most complex and misunderstood areas of the industry. However, with the number of claims increasing year on year, this is a topic that insurance professionals need to have a firm grasp of in order to ensure that they can deal with this type of incident.

This session we will hear from two guest speakers.

Robert Young - How to make business interruption work

Learning objectives
After this session delegates will be able to identify:
•understand why business interruption premiums are often higher than they should be
•recognise that additional information needs to be added to presentations
•understand why declaration linked isn’t working properly and what they can do about

Speakers Biography
Robert worked for over 30 years for one major UK Insurer spending most of this time operating in the underwriting area in various locations across the UK.

He joined Eagle Star in Leeds where he started his career in the Personal Lines department as a trainee underwriting clerk. Various moves followed as he progressed through several commercial underwriting roles before becoming Manager of one of the two International Underwriting teams in Manchester.

Throughout Robert's career with Eagle Star, he was involved in running many training workshops and helped to design, co-ordinate and deliver a commercial property and business interruption training package rolled out to all branch underwriters over a period of 18 months. Robert left Eagle Star in 2001 and started work as an independent Training Consultant shortly thereafter.

Speakers biography
Andrew has been in loss adjusting for 18 years working in the Major Loss team in Cunningham Lindsey.

Prior to loss adjusting he held a number of senior financial roles in industry within the chemical, paper and textile sectors. Andrew joined Cunningham Lindsey in Manchester where I started as the Major Loss Accountant specialising in Business Interruption moving through various roles within Major Loss, but always with Business Interruption as a specialism.

He has undertaken numerous Business Interruption workshops for brokers and insurers and have conducted pre-loss reviews for brokers and insurers.
