All you need to know about fleet underwriting. From Risk acceptance to pricing and points in between. What is an underwriter looking for in a presentation? Why are some insurers competitive and others not? Why has the fleet market not made an underwriting profit since 1996? We will delve into the dark arts of open market underwriting and also look at how digital underwriting and Risk Management are changing the landscape for the better (and for the worse in some cases). We will be concentrating on the importance of fair presentation of risk and why this is particularly important for fleets – from 3 vehicle NCD conversions to 10,000 vehicle retro-rated Global programmes.

Learning objectives
By the end of this lecture, attendees will be able to:
• Understand the key elements in the underwriting process
• Describe the effect of good and bad risk management
• Gain insight into “Burning cost” pricing and its complexities
• Be aware of potential changes in the market that will affect how fleet insurance is done

Speakers biography
Marc Hargreaves is a fleet underwriter with over a decade’s worth of experience working with fleets of all sizes in the broker market, currently looking after the Ageas Open Market book in the North. Starting out in underwriting support for Allianz in Germany and working in technical and trading roles for both Allianz and LV=, he has seen most of what the fleet market has to throw at insurers. A rarity in most insurance roles, he actively sought out insurance underwriting as a career and continues to enjoy the technical and trading challenges that working in a dynamic market brings. He is also current Chair of the IIM CPD committee.
