    • Tom Courtney, Specialist in Training and Development Consultancy, Total Excellence

Grab some breakfast and learn why nearly 80% of professionals consider networking crucial to career success but almost half of these people admit they find it hard to. The insurance calendar is packed with events and opportunities to meet like-minded people and build connections. Get it right and you will raise your profile by being more visible, people will know who you are and what you can do. If you want to progress, learn how to market yourself for opportunities and be memorable for all the right reasons. Recognition is not just down to how good you are at your job, it is as much about the connections you make, who you know and who knows you. Don’t turn down events because you are frightened of saying the wrong thing, learn how to network successfully.

Be there, be seen, go to that event, meet people, greet people, listen to their stories, share your own and nurture those connections for your future success.

Tom Courtney will be leading the event. Tom has specialised in Training and Development Consultancy since 1986 and has provided successful business solutions to clients across a broad spectrum of industries in both the public and private sectors. He gained membership to the Chartered Institute of Training and Development in 1987 and worked as both a Management Trainer and Change Agent within the Scottish Health Service in Edinburgh, Ayr and Aberdeen, liaising closely with Price Waterhouse Coopers in major organisational change programmes. Tom then became a Director of an integrated HR & Recruitment Consultancy. His role enabled him to build and develop the Training function and deliver training and development interventions nationally and internationally, working in a diverse range of countries in Europe, the Middle East, the Far East and USA.

Tom was integral in the development of the first Business to Business Oil Sector Mentoring initiative co-ordinated by the Department of Trade and Industry. He is also an accredited Belbin practitioner and in 2002 enabled his consultancy to become Scotland’s first agent for the delivery of Belbin Services. In 2006 he also became accredited to practice the DISC behavioural profiling tool. Tom has held Non-Executive Directorships within the Education Business Partnership arena, he actively supports Social Enterprise initiatives and has worked with the BBC, appearing in two series of the educational, training and personal development programme – “One Life to Live”.

Tom currently works with local training provider, Total Excellence, who are UK specialists in bespoke training and development solutions.
