Regulation webinar - FCA GI Consumer Duty & Update

  • Tue 13 Dec 10:00 am – 11:00 am
    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

The FCA want to see a higher level of consumer protection where firms compete vigorously in the interests of consumers and they wish to drive a healthy and successful financial services system in which firms can thrive and consumers can make informed choices about financial products and services. They consider that firms are not consistently and sufficiently prioritising good consumer outcomes and this causes consumer harm and erodes consumer trust. With final rules published on 27 July 2022 this talk will update you as to what now will be needed over the next 12 months. This General Insurance focused session will also include an update on Product Value Assessments that had to be completed by 30 September (note the FCA have criticised insurers for their lack of progress with this) and have given brokers an extension of 90 days so as to prevent customer harm. Both brokers and insurers have an important role to play and this session will ensure you understand what it is you have to do and what changes need to happen in year two of the process to ensure it all gets done. We will also cover the current position on multi-occupancy insurances following intervention by the government (very much part of the product governance/value assessments) and an update on the FCA’s work on Appointed Representatives

ACII FastTrack Programme - Register Your Interest

  • Thu 01 Dec – Thu 01 Dec

As an institute we are continually reviewing the needs of our members and over recent months we have been approached by some to inquire if we are considering running a Fast Track ACII programme as we did the Dip programme back in 2020. Before we can make a final decision on this we would like to hear from our members if this is something that would be of interest as we would need a minimum number of people to make this cost effective. The sessions would likely be run by webinar over an 18 month period covering 5 topics and would include tuition and guidance. The cost of the text books etc. would need to be met by the student or their employer and we would ask you to sign up to complete the whole course. You will need to be DIP CII qualified (or very nearly) to undertake the programme. If you have already started down the ACII track, you may still be able to join the programme - please email joanne.marriott@russellscanlan.com with details of what you have completed etc. for consideration if we go ahead with the course. If you think this is something you would be interested in, please let us know by clicking the Book Now button and registering your interest by the 1st December. Thank you

WEBINAR: An Introduction to Blockchain and Cryptocurrency and the impact on Insurance

  • Wed 09 Nov 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Gary Nuttall

Blockchain, Distributed Ledger Technology, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general keep appearing in the news. Whether it’s about ransomware, the dark web, money laundering or fraud, it tends to have only bad stories written about it. There’s also a lot of hype too as Bitcoin keeps going up in price, “DeFi” is the next big thing and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT’s) are the latest craze. The digital artist known as Beeple recently raised $69 Million from the auction of an NFT. The technology is full of buzzwords which makes it difficult to appreciate that it does offer some radical alternatives to how businesses operate and could have a transformative effect – particularly in insurance. The session is intended for those who wish to gain an understanding of blockchain core concepts, use cases and relevance to insurance. It is designed to be business, rather than technical, focused and no prior knowledge of Blockchain is required.

Human v Automated Decision Making : have we gone too far in insurance and financial service

  • Wed 13 Jul 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
    • Jeff Heasman

This session is aimed at all our insurance members - General & PFS We have reached a critical crossroads in the digitization and automation of processes within insurance and financial services. Some say that we have already gone too far and the human element is being continuously eroded, whereas others believe we have not gone far enough and that insurance and financial services continues to lag behind other professions. There is a fine balance to be struck. Based on doctoral research being conducted by Jeff Heasman and other sources of research and industry insights, this thought-provoking webinar will examine both sides of the debate and suggest a way forward to ensure the best possible outcome for the profession and for our clients.

Cyber Webinar

  • Fri 24 Jun 9:30 am – 9:35 am

We've listened to your feedback that Cyber Insurance is still a 'dark art' and a CPD session helping you to understand the cover and explain this to your clients would be welcomed. This session, by Neil Park (Study Leader of the Insurance Institute of London Cyber risks study group), will provide 4 Cyber Loss Scenarios You Should Use to Test and Demonstrate the Coverage Provided Under Your Customers’ Cyber Insurance Policies Cyber insurance policies are newer, less tested and arguably trickier to understand than property damage/business interruption policies so brokers and insurers must be able to clearly explain to customers the coverage and any limitations to the coverage to prevent similar policy disputes
