CPD & Wine Tasting Event

Speaker: Jeff Heasman

The Insurance Institute of Southampton will be hosting a free CPD event with the opportunity for you to sample some Spanish and Portuguese wines. The seminar will be presented by the popular Jeff Heasman, who, as well as running an insurance training business, is the owner of a wine business in Spain and a professional member of the Society of Wine Educators.

About the session:

The characteristics of a good wine can teach us a lot about the characteristics of a good communicator. Each wine is unique in its character and so too is each person. However, there are common ingredients and methods that go in to producing the finished article, whether it be a good wine or a good communicator.

Through tasting different Spanish and Portuguese wines, each with a unique character, this session will relate these characteristics to the five essential characteristics of a good communicator, from preparation through to the execution of a message.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

• Identify the key stages in the communication process.
• Recognise the 5 most important characteristics of a good communicator.
• Implement a strategy to communicate more effectively.

About the speaker

Jeff Heasman is a professional trainer and a certified practitioner member of the Academy of Modern Applied Psychology. Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Glamorgan and a master of laws degree from Swansea University, as well as a post graduate certificate in teaching English language to adults.

Jeff spent many years in practice as a litigation executive, dealing with cases up to and including the Court of Appeal in London (England v IBC Vehicles Ltd) and as a senior liability adjuster at Crawford and Company he dealt with insurance claims arising from many worldwide jurisdictions, with a particular focus on professional, public and employers’ liability claims.

Jeff is also the owner of a wine business in Spain and has a tasting room in northern Portugal. He is also a professional member of the Society of Wine Educators.

A former Dean of the Faculty of Law and lecturer in law at Cavendish University in Zambia, as well as a tutor in legal English at Swansea University, Jeff now provides training in insurance law and language to prestigious insurance organisations and companies throughout the world.
