Join us as Martin Loose continues his occasional series of technical seminars on Thursday 19 March, 2020.

This free, one hour seminar will look at the most common protection measures available to property owners, including

  • public fire fighting provision and how this has changed in recent years

  • the basic elements of fire alarms and minimum expectations around the installation of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels

  • sprinkler systems

  • the main types of fire suppression and spark detection

Martin will also discuss the benefits, limitations and insurers' attitudes to each of the above.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the seminar, delegates will be able to:

  • explain public fire and rescue service provision in the UK, how this has changed in recent years and the limitations of the service

  • describe the types of water supplies available for fire-fighting and the benefits and limitations of each

  • describe in simple terms what a sprinkler system comprises and the key information that insurers need to know about an existing system

  • explain the basic elements of a fire detection and alarm system and property insurers’ attitudes to such systems

  • explain property insurers’ expectations regarding basic protection measures such as fire extinguishers, fire blankets and hose reels

  • list the common types of fire suppression and spark detection / suppression systems available and insurers’ attitudes to each

Getting There
If travelling by car, the nearest car park is in Cyprus Road at the back of the Town Council Offices building on Crescent Way. Please note that Pay & Display charges apply until 6.00pm, but parking is free after this.

Burgess Hill train station is about 7 minutes' walk from the venue.

Please note: this event will take place at the Council Chamber on the 1st floor. A lift will normally be available for delegates to access the training, but stairs will need to be used in the event of an emergency evacuation of the building.
