From those early beginnings in a coffee shop in 1688, Lloyds has been a pioneer in insurance and has grown over 330 years to become the world's leading market for specialist insurance.

With such a significant and unique relationship with the insurance world, we are delighted to offer Insurance Institute of Sussex members the chance to learn about the history and current role that Lloyd's plays today.

Led by official Lloyd's tour guide Peter Fletcher, this free, one hour virtual tour will

• explore the way that Lloyd's operates today

• explain how underwriters and brokers interrelate with each other

• look at past results, the clients who insure at Lloyd's and the Chain of Security

• provide a history of Lloyd's

• look at some of the artefacts that are kept at Lloyd's

About our tour guide
Peter Fletcher worked in the Lloyd’s Market for 35 years, first as a Non-Marine broker, then as a Members’ Agent. He retired in 2013, and for the last seven years he has been the official Lloyd’s Tour Guide, giving lectures on the workings of the Market and conducting tours of the building. This came to a temporary end with the first lockdown in March 2020, but Peter is hoping to resume this activity at some point in 2021. Meanwhile, he has introduced these virtual tours, which seem to be very popular.
