Webinar: The reaction and outlook of global markets during COVID-19
The presentation will focus on global markets, looking at the economic and market conditions in the early part of 2020. It will look at how markets were then effected going into March by the spread of the COVID-19 virus and how the policy response from central banks and governments prevented a liquidity crisis akin to that seen in late 2008. We will examine the path of the virus in different countries, along with relative price movements between markets and sectors during this period. The presentation will then explain how this is guiding market expectations, the initial market rally and return to some pricing normality. Finally, we will examine expectations for the next stage of the recovery as economies re-open and how we believe different markets, sectors and factors will perform. Also, how issues such as money supply, inflation, taxation, dividends and government deficits will affect markets and investor behaviour over the near and medium terms.
After the presentation, attendees will be able to understand:
• How markets reacted in the phase one period of economic lockdowns
• The effect of policy action to support the economy
• Why markets are looking through current economic data
• The shape of the recovery and reasons why the economy may recover faster in H2
• How companies are approaching the lifting of restrictions
• How this crisis will affect markets medium term
