Compassion Fatigue

In insurance and financial services, we are so often called upon to demonstrate high levels of compassion in a whole range of different scenarios. If not dealt with properly, this can lead to fatigue that is bad for our mental and physical health and which in turn begins to significantly impact our performance and at worst lead to burnout. Second hand trauma can also occur as the result of dealing with clients in life-changing situations or through exposure to certain documents and evidence, such as photos and videos.
In this session, we will examine how compassion fatigue can manifest itself and then learn a strategy to ensure that we and our colleagues do not become a victim to this silent, but very serious, risk to our health.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
-
identify what is meant by compassion fatigue.
-
recognise how compassion fatigue can manifest itself and the risks it poses.
-
implement a strategy to mitigate the risks of compassion fatigue impacting ourselves and our colleagues.
