SME Cyber Risks

An outline of the types of risks to data that SMEs are exposed to. In particular we examine the different methods are used to take data from an organisation, with particular reference to small business. We then go on to examine the methods used within insurance to combat this both from a pro-active and a re-active perspective as well as how this will change with the introduction of European legislation this year. Finally, we will look at the barriers to sale of a cyber insurance policy and some good examples of questions that need to be asked of small businesses when they’re examining their insurance need.

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify how breaches occur in businesses of all types, sizes and industries
  2. Identify the methods used to avoid and resolve breach situations in insurance
  3. Understand the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation on cyber risk and appetite in Europe
  4. Understand and identify relevant questions to ask a business owner when considering their need for cyber insurance
